Blog #1 - Residency Day #2!!

Friends!

We are amidst our annual residency in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, and want to share this experience with you! As many of you know, every year we all trek off into western Massachusetts for two weeks to learn new vocal techniques, and to work with new composers.

This year we are working with a quartet of american singers who are practitioners of Sardinian folk music, as well as an American born singer who has spent significant time in Tuva working with some of the greatest Tuvan throat singers in the world.

Working with specialists from the states has been incredible! The fact that these practioners remember how hard it was to learn these non-native techniques, has given them the ability to teach in our singers quickly and effectively. The amount of improvement we have seen in the last two days has been truly amazing to watch.

Our resident composer this year, Missy Mazzoli, has been observing the sessions with the specialists, and has been enjoying one on one time with each of our singers, getting to know their individual voices.

Tonight we are looking forward to beautiful meal prepared by our dear friend Doug, and making music together over the dinner table.

More Soon!
